#2 Best Places In The Whitsundays
We are nearing the end of our top ten places in The Whitsundays and don’t believe there would be too many disappointed to see Whitehaven Beach almost top of our list. Voted the best beach in Australia on Trip Advisor for the last 3 years, it’s easy to see why thousands of people flock to this spot each week to see the pristine beauty for themselves.
Located on the largest island in the group, Whitehaven Beach is a 7 kilometer strip of pure white silica sand on the eastern side of Whitsunday Island. On the northern end lies the fabulous Hill Inlet while the southern end is a popular tourist stop for day trippers, with good anchorage and a small camp ground with bush toilets. If you want to camp out for a night or two then get in touch with Scamper Camping who run a barge from Shute Harbour on the mainland or Mars Charters who operate Camping drop-offs from Hamilton Island. You do need to organize camping permits yourself from the National Park website.
Most tour companies who operate from Airlie Beach and the island resorts have a day or overnight cruise that visits this wonderful location, so there are many different options for tourists who want to see this spectacular location for themselves. Perhaps a helicopter or seaplane flight would be more to you liking. Both these airlines can land you right on the beach.
Being locals we enjoy Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet as much, if not more, each and every time we visit. The short trek up to the Hill Inlet lookout holds special memories shared with friends and family and we hope the photographs we bring away inspire others to come to our region to see this spectacular sight for themselves.
Whitehaven Beach. We love it!
