#4 on our list of best spots in the Whitsundays is Hamilton Island.
Hamilton Island is a tropical paradise with something to suit everyone’s taste and budget. With it’s own airport, Hamilton Island has direct flights from major Australian cities or you can access the island from the mainland at Airlie Beach via Cruise Whitsundays ferry services.
The main beach is called Catseye Beach, strange name indeed. Perhaps it should have been named “rough diamond” as your Whitsundays adventure begins right on the beach. With free non-motorized sports that you can enjoy, like free paddle boards, canoes and catamarans, you can also snorkel with turtles, see beautiful coral and a host of marine life right from this amazing shoreline.
There are pools at the main accommodation hotels and another 3 pools along the foreshore, so there is always room for a refreshing swim. The pool at the Reefview Hotel is heated, just in case there happens to be a winter sometime. The ocean is never too cold for a swim.
The main form of transport on Hamilton Island is by golf buggy. Most holiday homes come with a buggy or you can hire one for a few hours, daily or for your entire stay. There is a free bus that connects the marina area with the resort centre and main hotels with only approximately a 10 minute wait time. Two other free buses service the accommodation areas and One Tree Hill, which is a fabulous location to watch the sunset.
Accommodation comes in all types of styles from the very luxurious Qualia, the over 18’s Beach Club, affordable garden villas, the popular Reefview Hotel, Whitsundays Apartments ideal for families and holiday homes. Accommodation to suit both your needs and budget.
There are ample bars and nightclubs, a supermarket, bakery, fish and chip shop, restaurants galore, speciality shops, a bowling alley, chemist, doctors, and this list goes on. You can take advantage of off the island cruises or flights to see the Great Barrier Reef, visit the ever popular Whitehaven Beach, go snorkeling, diving, fishing or play golf.
There are a host of adventure sports such as quad bikes, archery, target golf, plus the most amazing nature walks that take you to the highest points on the island for panoramic views of the beautiful Whitsundays.
We love spending time on Hamilton Island and never tire of the diversity that this beautiful vibrant island gives to visitors. You can play hard or simply relax, it’s entirely your choice.
You must put a visit to Hamilton Island on your bucket list.
